“A Magic Crystal” is an interior remodel project in Palo Alto, California by Gordana Design Studio, centered on the idea that color and geometry can fundamentally reshape even a simple residential shell. Rather than relying on new construction or major structural changes, the design operates through interior form, using curved surfaces and controlled transitions to soften the typical rectilinear language of a standard home. In remodel work, this kind of approach is significant because it treats the interior as an architectural condition, not just decoration layered on top of existing walls.
The project’s strongest identity comes from its use of intense color relationships across rooms, surfaces, and built-in elements, creating a continuity of experience that moves through the house. The palette is not applied randomly, but used as a spatial tool, guiding the eye and breaking the expected hierarchy of “neutral background with accent pieces.” By combining curves with a saturated interior strategy, the remodel reframes the home as an immersive designed environment, showing how interior architecture can create a strong and memorable character without changing the footprint.
